WHY DEVON ?

Well, Obviously you have to come to Devon to stay at the Globe. But whilst you are here you could take advantage of the fabulous scenery, vast range of outdoor activities, wonderful cultural and historic aspects, so much to do and see. Walking, shooting, hunting, fishing OR shopping. Visit the delightful selection of individual shops in Chagford or take a short trip to Exeter . Capital city of Devon , steeped in history with a brand new charm. Take a canoe trip down the river and have lunch at one of the historic pubs along the banks. Devon or to be more precise Chagford is the place to be.  

ACTIVITIES ON DARTMOOR .  

Canoeing on Dartmoor. Dartmoor offers some fantastic canoeing and white water rafting opportunities. The River Dart, graded as among the best mid grade white water runs. See dartmoornationalpark canoeing guidelines.  

Rock-Climbing.

Cycling.

Safe, traffic free trails, quiet forest tracks, steep rugged off-road routes or historic country lanes. Something for everyone.

Golf.

With over half a dozen quality golf courses
Dartmoor offers a wide range of golfing experiences. Whether you are a novice or a professional you will find terrain to challenge you. Set on or close to Dartmoor many courses enjoy fantastic moorland scenery, the sound of birdsong and scent of gorse flower on the breeze. Courses available at Moretonhampstead, Teign Valley, Wrangton and Tavistock with 2 courses.  

Dartmoor Letterboxing.

A challenge to find cunningly concealed boxes using clues supplied on sheets or in books. A favourite pastime on Dartmoor started in 1854 and now giving thousands of letterboxes to find. Walking.

Guided walks or independent routes. Create your own walk, or follow one of the many planned routes in leaflets and books lasting from an hour to a full day. Walking for all age groups and abilities.

Fly-Fishing.

Find wild fish in wild places! Mike Maslin will show you where, when and how if required. Numerous courses for all skill levels from this Devonian expert. You could hook up with a wild brown trout, sea trout or even a salmon on the East or West Dart or Cherry Brook, to name but a few. Pike fishing is available at both Tootiford and Trenchford reservoirs. On

Horse-riding.

Beginners and more experienced horse riders all agree that riding across

Hawking and Falconry.

Something to enjoy for all the family.

Carriage Driving.

Experience the art of driving a horse-drawn carriage. You will have a chance to drive singles, pairs, and for those more experienced there may be tandem, team, or unicorn! For the beginner there are quiet sensible cobs that will give you the confidence you want. For the more experienced, there are ponies full of spirit that will give you a real buzz as they tackle the demanding hills on
